Besides the Gary Rosenthal breakable wedding glass that I blogged about yesterday, a company based in California also offers a breakable wedding glass. The price is the same as the one from artist Gary Rosenthal but the style and colors available are a bit different. The Breakable Colored Wedding Glass by Shardz comes with a ivory satin bag and comes in 8 different colors: amber, emerald, peach, clear, cobalt blue, purple, ruby, and metallic.

Fay Miller the handblown glass artist created this wedding glass. Her breakable wedding glass or sometimes called the groom’s glass is part of a larger collection of Fay Miller’s. Fay Miller has also created candlesticks, kiddush cups, menorahs, mezuzahs, dreidels, and frames that incorporate the shardz of a broken wedding glass.

Once again the breakable wedding glass makes the perfect bridal shower gift which could be followed by a wedding glass keepsake by Fay Miller as the wedding gift.

While you are rushing to dot all the “i’s” and cross all the “t’s” for your wedding, don’t forget to get a glass to break under the chuppah. Many people pick up a glass at the local store or even break a light blub but you could add more style to your wedding by breaking a Gary Rosenthal Wedding Glass that comes in 5 different colors: blue, green, turquoise, red or purple. Blue seems to be the most popular color these days, although I am a fan of the green. Each glass comes with a beautiful blue velvet bag, so you don’t have to be running around looking for a cloth napkin to wrap up the glass prior to the stomping.

The shards of the glass could than be used to create so many different keepsakes. Gary Rosenthal has a entire bridal line of Wedding Glass Keepsakes such as mezuzahs, frames, Kidduah cups and menorahs. Once you break the glass under the chuppah you could easily deposit the shards into tubes that are attached to each of these items.

The wedding glass along with one of the keepsake items also makes a perfect bridal and wedding gift. It is always fun to present the wedding glass with the velvet bag at a bridal shower and than give a wedding glass keepsake item as a wedding gift. You can’t go wrong.

Wedding bells are in the air and it seems to be the beginning of the wedding season. One of the traditional parts of a Jewish Wedding- and one you often see depicted in movies- is the breaking of the wedding glass under the chuppah. Traditionally the last part of the wedding ceremony is when the groom stomps on the wedding glass with full force which is followed by a huge “Mazel Tov” by all the wedding guests.

One of the primary reasons given for the breaking of the wedding glass is that joy must be tempered. While everyone is celebrating the joy of a wedding they should also not forget things that were always not so joyous such as the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. A little heavy I know.

So this tradition has always been carried out with a plain glass. But with time things have evolved. Now you could add some fun to the breaking of the wedding glass with a colorful glass. Often times the broken pieces of the glass are turned into Wedding Glass Keepsakes: mezuzahs, frames, candlesticks, and even vases. (Look for future blogs on what to do with the wedding glass shards.) So knowing that there is a future life for the shards it is great to get creative with the glass that you are actually breaking.

We offer 3 different types of breakable wedding glasses by three different artists. Each artist offers a different color and slightly different style. All off them come with a bag to place the glass in. Each one has a bit of a different shape but are equally beautiful. Each of the glasses sell for $30 which is a perfect price point for a wedding shower gift. And best of all it is something that you know will be used.

Check out the different breakable wedding glasses and break your wedding glass in style.

Go to synagogue in style with these beautiful wire kippahs that are hand made in Israel. The kippahs all come with a built in clip and are a great replacement for the outdated doilies. The wire kippahs come with different color accents. There is the wire kippah with gold accents and a wire flower in the middle of the kippah. Then there is the kippah with a Jewish Star in the middle with silver accents. There is also the wire kippahs with a hamsa in the middle. Some of the other colors include purple and blue, blue and pink. Each kippah mesaures 4″ in diameter.

These wire kippahs are also perfect for a Bat Mitzvah girl and easily match any tallit.

Are you looking for the perfect Mother’s Day Gift? If it is always hard to think of a gift for a mother who has everything, let us help you.

You could always go with a nice piece of funky fun jewelry. Currently our favorite piece is the Leather Evil Eye Cuff bracelet. It is available in apple green, black, red, light blue and white. (Our favorite color is apple green, but then again we love green.) The evil eye is always worn for protection and good luck.

So if you haven’t fallen in love with the Leather Evil Eye Cuff Bracelet our other favorite piece is the Ruby Shema Bracelet. The Shem Yisrael Charm measures 3/4″ and is set with cubic zirconia stones in sterling silver and is hand strung on genuine rubies. The Shema, ”Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one,” found in Deuteronomy 6:4, is the most important prayer of the Jewish people.

If you don’t think your mother would like jewelry you should think of getting her a piece of art. A print with the text of Eshet Chayil. Eshet Chayil or Woman of Valor is a twenty-two verse poem with which King Solomon concludes the book of Proverbs (Proverbs 31). The poem has an acrostic arrangement in which the verses begin with the letters of the Hebrew alphabet in regular order. The poem describes the woman of valor as one who is energetic, righteous, and capable. It is customarily recited on Friday evenings. One of our favorite Eshet Chayil prints is one by the artist Micki Caspi. This illumination in the Italinate style comes with an English translation by the artist and her husband.

It is not too soon to think about Passover. Do you have a Seder Plate? Today I am going to highlight the Pomegranates Seder Plate by Shraga Landesman. Shraga Landesman is an Israeli artist presiding in Haifa. He draws upon the Bible, archeological finds in Israel, memories from his childhood and nature for his inspiration. His creations include, havdalah sets, Shabbat candlesticks, apple and honey dishes for Rosh Hashanah, menorahs, kiddush cups and different framed pieces of art. But his Seder Plate is one of my favorites.

His beautiful Aluminum Pomegranate Seder Plate features six pomegranates which act as placeholders for the items meant to go on the Seder Plate. It was made by Shraga Landesman and is the perfect size at D11.75″x H1″. There is Hebrew writing around the rim of the plate which reads “today you are leaving in the month of spring.”

I fell in love with this necklace when I saw it. I am always at a loss of what to buy a family when they have a new baby. You could always go the traditional route and buy an outfit for the baby, a toy or some practical baby paraphernalia. However, sometimes it is fun to think outside the box and buy something for the mother. The necklace celebrates motherhood by representing each child with a heart charm that is engraved with their initial. It is simple yet elegant.

The silver necklace is available with Hebrew or English letters and it is the perfect way to celebrate each child. Not only does this make the great gift for a new mother, but it is the perfect gift for Mother’s Day. (Don’t worry when Mother’s Day comes around I will make sure to remind you about this necklace.)

Are you ever at a loss at what to get your friend’s new baby? The Brit Milah/ Baby Naming Certificate is the perfect gift. The certificates can be personalized with the baby’s name and birth date and could be presented at either ceremony. The certificate is available framed which adds a finishing touch. This is certainly a gift that cannot be out grown, but one that shows a lot of thought.

The certificates are creations of the artist Micki Caspi of Caspi Cards and Art. Mickie Caspi is an Israeli-American artist and calligrapher who has been specializing in Judaica since 1980. Among the many sources that inspire Mickie’s delicate watercolor designs are traditional Jewish motifs, Persian and Arabic illumination, contemporary graphics, as well as art nouveau and art deco. Being an avid gardener, she loves to incorporate the beauty of nature into much of her artwork.
